Get a kaylin number

Let kaylin walk you through it

Press Set up my number in Settings → Phone numbers (kaylin also offers it once, right after setup). kaylin takes you through Your number, How it answers, Your greeting, Your business line, Texting and a Test call, one step at a time. Nothing changes until you press OK, and each change shows in Settings → Activity as made by kaylin with your OK.

For the test, call your number from a phone that isn't yours (calls from your own mobile reach kaylin as the team), then press I've called. kaylin reads the call back and says whether it went the way you chose. If something isn't right, kaylin helps you fix it or passes it to kaylin's team. The next day, kaylin looks at your number's first day and lets you know how it went.

Texting registers your number with the phone carriers, which they require before a business texts customers. Fill in your business as it appears on your IRS records; kaylin writes the rest (what your texts are for, how customers agree to them, and sample texts you can change) and sends it in. Approval usually takes 1–2 weeks; kaylin checks every day and lets you know. Calls work in the meantime. Sole proprietors without an EIN register a little differently, so kaylin's team sends it in with you. The carriers charge a one-time fee to register: on a monthly plan it's added to your next bill once, for what the carriers charge, and yearly plans include it.

Get a number yourself

Owners and admins can add numbers. Your plan sets how many numbers you can have.

1. 1Go to Settings → Phone numbers.
2. 2Press Get a number (or Add number if you already have one).
3. 3Pick the Country and type an Area code, like 512.
4. 4Choose one of the Available numbers.
5. 5Pick the Voice kaylin uses on this number.
6. 6Press Get this number. kaylin starts answering right away.

Manage a number

Each number has its own card. The Active switch turns answering on or off. The ⋯ menu has Rename (a label like "Main line"), Disconnect and Release.

Releasing gives the number up for good, and it can't be undone. To pause a number instead, turn off Active.
